Why do people think laptop/ computer brands actually matter?

You are probably at least partly correct. It is the parts that make the computer. However, it seems that some companies regularly use better parts than others. If you are familiar with all the possible parts and how they interface and work together, I suppose the name on the box makes little difference. For some of us, we have to go by namebrand faith.
